Economic evolution necessitates reliable transportation
Posted By: txdot_amz at July 24, 2007 2:26:01 PM
Speakers for this session incluced Aaron Demerson, Economic Development and Tourism Division, Office of the Governor; Ron Hagquist, TxDOT Government and Public Affairs Division; and Tracye McDaniel, EVP/COO, Greater Houston Partnership. Hagquist noted that the evolution of the U.S. economy over the last two decades impacted transportation significantly. Today, the economy is much more service-oriented and relies heavily on just-in-time production. As a result, reliable transportation has become more critical. In the Houston-Galveston area, the Greater Houston Partnership has taken a leadership role in positioning the region as an economic thought leader. McDaniel emphasized the need to establish Houston-Galveston as both a location and a destination in order to compete regionally, nationally and globally.
