TTC-35 Public Hearing

Trans-Texas Corridor 35 received a lot of attention in the last several weeks as the Texas Department of Transportation completed a round of 54 public hearings along the corridor.

Texans responded to TxDOT's invitation to be a part of the decision-making process with approximately 14,000 attending these hearings and providing about 6,000 comments.

TxDOT is reviewing the comments received at the hearings and others sent by those who did not attend the hearings and will determine what adjustments would be made to the proposed study area. Upon completion, a final environmental impact statement on the study area will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration for approval.

Addressing the need to alleviate congestion on Interstate 35 and to improve the movement of people and freight from the Texas/Oklahoma state line to the Texas/Mexico border is no small task. TxDOT recognizes that simply building a few extra lanes on the existing route will not solve the current problem nor address future needs brought on by projected increases in population and traffic volumes.

The Trans-Texas Corridor, a multi-use statewide network of transportation routes that will incorporate existing and new highways, railways and utility rights of way, is the solution. In addition to reducing congestion and enhancing safety, the added capacity of TTC will provide quicker evacuation routes in the event of a hurricane or other emergencies.

TTC-35 is a large-scale project requiring extensive environmental study and providing ample public involvement. The magnitude of this project prompted state and federal transportation officials to use a tiered process to determine a final alignment for TTC-35. The first step or tier is to determine a study area in which more detailed studies would follow.

The public has many questions about TTC-35 and sometimes what's out there can appear contradictory, so we’ve tackled some of those issues in a publication called Myth vs. Reality.

No matter where they live, Texans agree that solutions to our transportation problems must be developed and implemented. TxDOT is committed to keeping traffic moving, bringing more jobs and businesses to Texas, moving hazardous materials out of metropolitan areas, protecting the environment and ensuring Texas’ transportation system remains one of the best in the country.
